India Patto (Graphic Design)

Choosing which subjects to take for A level can be a really daunting process but I think it's really important to choose something you are passionate about. I decided to study Graphic design, Textiles and Media. I am really happy with my decision to study these courses and they all complement each other well.

Initially, I was put off studying graphics, with a preconception that it would largely be computer-based and computers were not something that I was strong at or liked. HOWEVER, this was totally wrong and graphics is the most versatile course which is one of my favourite aspects. There’s so much freedom in how you create and design work based on what you enjoy. For example, some people chose to work digitally in the main whereas others combined off-screen mixed media techniques like collage and stitching. As well as others choosing different approaches like illustration or photography. Graphic design isn’t about being excellent at drawing, for example, but instead about having a passion to express yourself creatively. Graphics allows you the freedom to create in whatever medium you choose.

The teachers Emma and Armand are so so friendly and inspiring, always happy to help and give excellent advice on how to develop your work and ideas, pushing you further as an artist.

After 51福利社, I am taking an Art Foundation year at Central Saint Martins which I am super excited about and I think is an excellent opportunity to allow me to explore my creativity, helping me to hopefully specialise later in a career path.
