Henry Chadwick (Music Technology)

When choosing my A-Levels, I saw Music Technology as an opportunity to extend one of my hobbies into an academic subject. Whilst the written side of the course is focused on the history of recording and producing, the coursework allows for you to show your more creative side. Therefore, I felt that the A-Level was the perfect mix for someone like me, I enjoy an academic challenge, but I often like to express my creativity through my work. During your time on the course, the main software you will learn to use is Logic Pro X as it is an industry standard in studios and home production. This software comes with the tools that are required to kickstart your own music production and from learning the techniques taught to you, you will become a valuable asset in the studio.

This course requires a lot of focus and time management, which at some times may feel like a struggle, but the expert teaching and the constant support from the music department makes large tasks or deadlines feel less daunting. My teachers pushed me to achieve the highest grades possible and with the added time of my 50:50 work I was able to achieve these goals. The teachers encourage you to explore new genres and styles to expand your knowledge of music production techniques.

Overall, the music department has helped me to achieve not only academic goals but also personal goals that I had set for myself at the start of Lower Sixth. After A-Levels, I am considering studying Sound Engineering and Production at University as I want to elevate my knowledge to degree level.
